Ans. Polo is called the game of kings because it was patronized by kings and was played with great joy by princes and warriors to test their courage, endurance and power.

Q2. Where did polo originate?

Ans. Polo originated in central Asia and then eventually spread as for as Japan, China, Tibet and India.

Q3. What was the status of polo during the Mughal reign?

Ans. During the reign of Mughals, polo was the National sport of India until the end of sixteenth century. In this period polo was patronized by the kings and nobles and was widely played in the provinces of the Empire and in the courts of the Rajput Kings.

Q4. In whose reign did polo come to Ladakh and how?

Ans. According to the legends, polo came to Ladakh during the reign of Jamyang Namgyal  in 16^th century who married, Gyal Khatun  a princess from Baltistan .

Q5. How is polo played in Ladakh?

Ans. In Ladakh polo is played with great joy. It is more than a game and a part of cultural heritage. The game draws huge crowds with people donning their traditional colourful costumes. It is played  as a test of human endurance skill and horse strength to play continuously.

Q6. How is polo in Ladakh different from the international format?

Ans. It is different here from the current international format in player count as well as duration. There are two teams with six players of each. The game lasts for one hour with 20 minutes of break. It is played with, musical accompaniment. It is an integral part of the annual Ladakh festival.

Ans. Polo is called the king of games because in its early history, it was played by kings only. It originated in Central Asia. It is like hockey on horseback. In this game, two teams with six players each try to score against each other. The players are on horseback and strike the ball with the mallet. The game is divided into halves and the team scoring nine goals wins. It is a dangerous game, because the place of the game besides the horses and the mallets make it exciting and dangerous.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. They needed 232 runs to win and were hopeful of  victory because they thought the score would be chased down with ease. Their top three batsmen fell at a mere 54 runs which brought the middle order under pressure. The next two batsmen scored 71 runs on 122 balls but they soon lost wickets at important moments. They were force to lose the match by 30 runs with 6 balls remaining. Australia’s McKay finished with 5 wickets for 28 runs. Their victory against Sri Lanka has put them on the top of the rankings.

Q1. Who was Macbeth?

Ans. Macbeth was a Scottish General and was, made the ‘Thane of Glamis’. [Glamis and Cawdor are the village names in Scotland] He became the King of Scotland after killing King Duncan.

Q2. What did the witches tell Macbeth?

Ans. The witches told Macbeth that he would be the King after the possession of Cawdor.

Q3. How did Lady Macbeth come to know about the strange procession of events?

Ans. Lady Macbeth came to know about the strange events from the letter from her husband in which she read the encounter of her husband with witches and their prediction of him becoming a king.

Q4. How did she help Macbeth in murdering King Duncan?

Ans. She encouraged Macbeth and told him to kill the King to get the throne. She also told him to shift the blame to the King’s grooms by spreading blood on them.

Q5. Who were the only possible witnesses of the murder?

Ans. Kings grooms were the only possible witnesses of the murder.

Q6. Why did the two princes escape from the Scotland?

Ans. The two princes escaped because of the fear to be, killed by the new king.

Q7. Why did Macbeth seek out of the witches and what did he learn from them?

Ans. Macbeth was feared by the haunt of Banquo’s ghost, so he seek out the witches and learned that he must beware of the Thane of Fife (MacDuff). They also informed him that he would not be, harmed by one ‘of woman born’ and would not be defeated until ‘Birnam Wood’ should come against him.

Q8. What happened to Lady Macbeth?

Ans. Lady Macbeth lost control over her mind. She sleepwalked, spoke unnatural deeds, and died in a castle near Birnam Wood.

Q9. Why did Macbeth feel himself safe though his army was defeated?

Ans. Macbeth felt himself safe because he remembered the words of the witches, which said that no one could harm him until Birnam Wood should come against him.

चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें सारांश प्रथम पद: चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें कविता के प्रथम पद में बालिका चाँद से कह रही है कि यूं तो आप गोल हैं, पर फिर भी थोड़े-से तिरछे दिखाई देते हैं। ये आकाश मुझे आपके वस्त्र की तरह नज़र आता है, जिसमें अनगिनत तारे जड़े हुए हैं तथा इस पूरे विशाल पोशाक-रूपी आसमान में आप अकेले ही गोल-मटोल और गोरे-चिट्टे-से अपनी आभा फैलाए हुए दिखाई पड़ते हैं।

चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें सारांश द्वितीय पद: चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें कविता के इस पद में लड़की चाँद से कहती है कि ये जो आप थोड़े-से तिरछे से नज़र आते हो, अच्छे तो लगते हो, पर हमको आप बेवकूफ़ ना समझना, हम सब जानते हैं कि आपका ये तिरछापन आपकी किसी बीमारी की वजह से है।

आप घटते हैं तो घटते ही चले जाते हैं,

और बढ़ते हैं तो बस यानी कि

बढ़ते ही चले जाते हैं

दम नहीं लेते हैं जब तक बिल्कुल ही

गोल ना हो जाएंँ,

चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें सारांश तृतीय पद: चाँद से थोड़ी सी गप्पें कविता के इस अंतिम पद में बालिका चाँद से कहती है कि आप घटते हैं तो घटते ही चले जाते हैं और बढ़ते हैं तो बढ़ते ही चले जाते हैं। पता नहीं क्यों, आपकी ये बीमारी ठीक ही नहीं हो रही है। अतः छोटी बालिका चाँद के घटते और बढ़ते रूप को एक बीमारी समझ रही है।

कविता से

प्रश्न 1. ‘आप पहने हुए हैं कुल आकाश’ के माध्यम से लड़की कहना चाहती है कि-

(क) चाँद तारों से जड़ी हुई चादर ओढ़कर बैठा है।

(ख) चाँद की पोशाक चारों दिशाओं में फैली हुई है।

आप किसे सही मानते हो ?

उत्तर- लड़की यह बताना चाहती है कि संपूर्ण आकाश तुम्हारे चारों ओर है ऐसा लगता है जैसे यह संपूर्ण आकाश ही तुम्हारा वस्त्र है, जिस पर सितारे जड़े हैं।

प्रश्न 2. कवि ने चाँद से गप्पें किस दिन लगाई होंगी? इस कविता में आई बातों की मदद से अनुमान लगाओ और उसका कारण भी बताओ।

अष्टमी से पूर्णिमा के बीच – ………..

मेरे विचार से कवि ने चाँद से अष्टमी से पूर्णिमा के बीच गप्पें लगाई होगी।

 

प्रश्न 3. नई कविता में तुक या छंद के बदले बिंब का प्रयोग अधिक होता है। बिंब वह तसवीर होती है जो शब्दों को पढ़ते समय हमारे मन में उभरती है। कई बार कुछ कवि शब्दों की ध्वनि की मदद से ऐसी तसवीर बनाते हैं और कुछ कवि अक्षरों या शब्दों को इस तरह छापने पर बल देते हैं कि उनसे कई चित्र हमारे मन में बनें। इस कविता के अंतिम हिस्से में चाँद को एकदम गोल बताने के लिए कवि ने बि ल कु ल शब्द के अक्षरों को अलग-अलग करके लिखा है। तुम इस कविता के और किन शब्दों को चित्र की आकृति देना चाहोगे? ऐसे शब्दों को अपने ढंग से लिखकर दिखाओ।

उत्तर- चाँद, गोल-मटोल, तिरछे।

अनुमान और कल्पना

प्रश्न 1. कुछ लोग बड़ी जल्दी चिढ़ जाते हैं। यदि चाँद का स्वभाव भी आसानी से चिढ़ जाने का हो तो वह किन बातों से सबसे ज्यादा चिढ़ेगा? चिढ़कर वह उन बातों का क्या जवाब देगा? अपनी कल्पना से चाँद की ओर से दिए गए जवाब लिखो।

उत्तर- यदि चाँद का स्वभाव आसानी से चिढ़ जाने का हो तो वह तिरछे कहे जाने पर जरूर चिढ़ेगा। घटने-बढ़ने की बीमारी की बात सुनकर भी उसे बहुत गुस्सा आएगा। वह चिढ़कर यही जवाब देगा कि वह तिरछा नहीं है और ना ही उसे घटने-बढ़ने की बीमारी है, यह हमारी नजर का फेर है कि वह हमें तिरछा नजर आता है। शायद वह हमें यह भी कहेगा कि अपनी नजर ठीक करवाने के लिए डॉक्टर के पास जाकर चश्मा लगवा लो।

प्रश्न 2. यदि कोई सूरज से गप्पें लगाए तो वह क्या लिखेगा? अपनी कल्पना से गद्य या पद्य में लिखो। इसी तरह की कुछ और गप्पें निम्नलिखित में से किसी एक या दो से करके लिखो-

पेड़ बिजली का खंभा सड़क पेट्रोल पंप

उत्तर- (क) सूरज से गप्पें-

अरे सूरज भाई,

इतने क्यों नाराज हो,

पता नहीं तुम

सभी को जलाए जाते हो

कभी लाल तो कभी सफ़ेद चाँदी से

(ख) पेड़ से गप्पो-

(घ) पेट्रोल पंप

हे पेट्रोल पंप! तुम्हारे अंदर कितना तेल समाया है?

यह कभी खत्म होने का नाम नहीं लेता।

तेरे कारण सारी दुनिया सड़कों पर दौड़ रही है।

तुममें यह शक्ति कहाँ से आई है?

(ङ) बिजली का खंभा-

हे बिजली के खंभे।

सिर पर तारों का जाले

तुम क्यों लंबे खड़े हो

करंट मारते खूब हो।

भाषा की बात

प्रश्न 1.

चाँद संज्ञा है। चाँदनी रात में चाँदनी विशेषण है।

नीचे दिए गए विशेषणों को ध्यान से देखो और बताओ कि-

(क) कौन-सा प्रत्यय जुड़ने पर विशेषण बन रहे हैं।

(ख) इन विशेषणों के लिए एक-एक उपयुक्त संज्ञा भी लिखो-

गुलाबी पगड़ी

मखमली घास

कीमती गहने

ठंडी रात

जंगली फुल

कश्मीरी भाषा

उत्तर-

ये सभी विशेषण ‘ई’ प्रत्यय जुड़ने से बने हैं। गुलाबी पगड़ी, मखमली घास, कीमती गहने, ठंडी खीर, जंगली जानवर, कश्मीरी कन्या।

प्रश्न 2.

गोल-मटोल,

गोरा – चिट्टा

कविता में आए शब्दों के इन जोड़ों में अंतर यह है कि चिट्टा का अर्थ सफ़ेद है और गोरा से मिलता-जुलता है, जबकि मटोल अपने-आप में कोई शब्द नहीं है। यह शब्द ‘मोटा’ से बना है। ऐसे चार-चार शब्द-युग्म सोचकर लिखो और उनका वाक्यों में प्रयोग करो।

खाना-वाना

चाय-वाय

पानी-वानी

मोल-तोल

उत्तर-

खाना-वाना ……….  खाना-वाना तो अच्छा ही बना है।

चाय-वाय ………. यहाँ चाय-वाय का प्रबंध नहीं है।

पानी-वानी ………. उसने मुझे पानी-वानी भी नहीं पिलाया।

मोल-तोल ………. दुकानदार से मोल-तोल करके ही सौदा लेना।

प्रश्न 3.

‘बिलकुल गोल’–कविता में इसके दो अर्थ हैं-

(क) गोल-आकार का,

(ख) गायब होना!

ऐसे तीन और शब्द सोचकर, उनसे ऐसे वाक्य बनाओ जिनके दो-दो अर्थ निकलते हों।

उत्तर-

(क) पत्र – (i) (पत्ता) वसंत में वृक्षों से पत्र झरने लगते हैं।

(ii) (चिठ्ठी) आज दादी जी का पत्र आया था।

(ख) अंबर – (i) (वस्त्र) विष्णु भगवान पीतांबर धारण करते हैं।

(ii) (आकाश) चाँदनी रात में अंबर की शोभा निराली होती है।

(ग) कनक – (i) (सोना) यह हार कनक से बना है।

(ii) (धतूरा) कनक खाने से आदमी पागल हो जाता है।

प्रश्न 4.

तांकि, जबकि, चूँकि, हालाँकि-कविता की जिन पंक्तियों में ये शब्द आए हैं, उन्हें ध्यान से पढ़ो। ये शब्द दो वाक यों को जोड़ने का काम करते हैं। इन शब्दों का प्रयोग करते हुए दो-दो वाक्य बनाओ।

उत्तर-

(क) ताकि – (i) आयुष मेहनत कर रहा है ताकि परीक्षा में प्रथम आ सके।

(ii) तुम दवाई खा लो ताकि सुबह स्कूल जा सको।

(ख) जबकि – (i) मदन ने राजेश की मदद की जबकि दोनों में शत्रुता थी।

(ii) राजा भागा हुआ आया जबकि काफ़ी धूप हो रही थी।

(ग) चूँकि – (i) चूंकि मैं बीमार हूँ इसलिए काम पर नहीं आ सकता।

(ii) चूँकि उसे विद्यालय जाना था इसलिए वह जल्दी घर चला गया।

(घ) हालाँकि – (i) हालाँकि इस साल वर्षा कम हुई परंतु फ़सल फिर भी अच्छी हुई।

(ii) हालाँकि तुम ठीक कहते हो परंतु लोग नहीं मानते।

प्रश्न 5.

गप्प, गप-शप, गप्पबाजी-क्या इन शब्दों के अर्थों में अंतर है? तुम्हें क्या लगता है? लिखो।

कृष्ण पक्ष और शुक्ल पक्ष का क्या अर्थ होता है?

उत्तर-

इन कलेंडरों में संवत् 2063 वाला कलेंडर चंद्रमा के अनुसार है।

हाँ, हमारे आसपास दोनों कलेंडरों का इस्तेमाल अंग्रेज़ी महीने की तारीख देखने के लिए होता है।

कृष्ण पक्ष को अर्थ है महीने का वह पक्ष (पंद्रह दिन) जो पूर्णिमा के अगले दिन से लेकर अमावस्या तक होता है तथा शुक्ल पक्ष अमावस्या के अगले दिन यानी प्रतिपदा से लेकर पूर्णिमा तक होता है।

प्रश्न 2.

चाँद और सूरज से संबंधित कुछ कविताओं के बारे में जानकारी संग्रह करके कक्षा में शिक्षक को सुनाइए।
